| Project Summary | This new project “Subtitling Classical Chinese Poetry for Social Media” by funding Phase 1, is focused on poems from the Tang dynasty, a golden age of classical Chinese poetry. This is a Creation project.Hired students will use subtitling software to add Chinese character and Hanyu pinyin (Romanization) subtitles to videos of Professor Christopher Rea reciting individual Tang dynasty poems. Subtitlers would use an archive of over 200 cell phone videos that Dr Rea created during the pandemic of himself reciting individual Tang poems. The subtitled poem videos, ranging from 10 seconds to a few minutes in length, would be distributed to over half a dozen advanced Chinese language classes at UBC for students to use to practice their pronunciation and diction. The poems may also be used for instructors of the courses to develop and implement relevant open test/quiz/problem banks and other interactive content that can be used for assessment in these courses. |
