UBC OER Match Funding Available for UBCV Faculty Members

BCcampus recently announced the first of two calls for proposals targeting the development of formative activities for open homework systems. The intent of these grants is to develop activities in which students can practice applying new concepts and skills that align with content within the selected open textbook. Successful proposals from faculty members at UBC Vancouver are eligible for match funding from the UBC OER Fund.

The current BCcampus call is for post-secondary instructors and faculty in British Columbia to develop sets of content types in H5P that support open textbooks in the B.C. Open Textbook Collection. H5P integrates with Pressbooks — the BCcampus open textbook publishing platform. The second call will be issued in early summer 2020 and will focus on a soon-to-be determined platform that supports math-based courses and programs.

UBCV faculty members whose proposals are successfully funded by BCcampus will be eligible to receive match funding from the UBC OER Fund specifically to implement the resulting open textbook and open homework content as required learning materials into UBC credit courses. This match funding is contingent upon the following:

  • A successfully-funded project from BCcampus
  • A commitment to integrating the OER developed with the BCcampus funding as required learning material within UBCV undergraduate courses
  • The submission of a project timeline, budget and evaluation plan for the implementation of the open resources into UBCV credit courses
  • Adherence to the requirements of the UBC OER Fund Implementation Grants

The maximum value of each BCcampus H5P OER Development Grant grant is $10,000, which would be matched by the UBC OER Fund. The BCcampus deadline for proposals is June 5th, 2020.  More information, including the application form, can be found at: https://bccampus.ca/grants-calls-for-proposals/call-for-proposals-2020-h5p-oer-development-grant/
